		<description>Bro. Lew Wallace, the author of Ben Hur, served in both the Mexican War (no combat experience) and the U.S. Civil War.  He fought in several battles, including Shiloh and the Monocacy, in the latter, though defeated, he delayed Confederate Gen. Early long enough that the Capital was reinforced and saved.
I wonder if during this battle experience, he gained the insight to produce this example of human compassion?  I would bet his Masonic Education informed this as well.  Love without worry about credit or blame may be the purest form of worship.</description>
