What I have found, and I would assume Dean would agree, is that Twitter is what you make it. If you take the time to build your networks, not for numbers but rather for personal knowledge, it is an outstanding tool.

The masonic twitter group ( http://twittgroups.com/group/mason ) is a good place to start. Begin following the masons there, but do not feel obligated to continue following someone who just isn't contributing to your personal learning network in the way you are looking for.

In addition to the freemason group you can search twitter for keywords such as freemason at http://search.twitter.com/ or go to http://www.twibes.com/group/Freemason to find more masons on twitter.

There are many more techniques, and perhaps Masonic Technology will do an article, or FmI will create a database of networks, but regardless if you want to meet, discuss with, and learn from, masons from all over the globe Twitter is a wonderful tool.
