As always, there has been lots going on around FreemasonInformation.com.
First on the plate is an updated listing of past Masonic Central Pod casts. Now you can find the link under the About Us section of the navigation with an up-to-date list of all the past shows along with a link to listen to the programs from the site Its consolidated into one place for ease of listening, plus you can still find the shows in the Masonic Central category and listen to the programs in their original posts. And, don’t forget them on ITunes!
Next, I wanted to take a few seconds and let you know about some of the new cool functionality and fun things that we’ve just added, some of which applies to every user, and some of which only applies to some. But, we are trying to reach users at all levels and as with any journey, its one step, and one pixel, at a time.
The first new feature comes through a partnership with the brother who runs the website Masonic Matrix. One of the coolest tools on the Masonic web is Google map application that he started some time back that seemed a perfect fit with the aims of Freemason Information. That tool is the Masonic lodge locator.
The basics of the lodge locater is that you plug in the zip code, and then locate lodges within a predetermined radius. Now, the lodges in the locater are still a work in progress (so if yours isn’t there, give it some time as more are added almost daily), but so far it has thousands of publicly listed lodges in many American states. The project is reminiscent to one I mentioned wanting to do some months back in creating the Google map of American lodges, but the Matrix beat me to the punch. But, since talking to the brother who created it, I’m glad to have him a part of our team here and to be able to showcase his work. Now, when asking the 2be1ask1 question, we’ve taken that next step and added an extra helpful step for the interested seeker find 1 to ask.
The next site upgrade that I wanted mention is that Freemason Information has gone mobile. While we haven’t upgraded to a .mobi site yet, we have sprinkled some pixel dust and worked some technological magic to make the site Mobile friendly. It works best on ITouch, Iphone, and Android enabled phones, but it should work on any G3 compatible browser ready device.
Now you can browse the site on the train, on the bus, in a meeting, or anywhere you have some down time away from your computer and want to see whats going on in the digital world of Freemasonry. From just a bit of testing, it looks great!
Lastly, I wanted to mention a new button that has appeared on the top right of the website.
That new feature is the bright yellow DONATE button.
As the site has been developing out, we’ve kept the advertising to help offset the cost of development and defray some of the contributors expense. Each of your clicks to the Ads (on the site and in the emails) helps us with those costs. But, with the economy increasingly becoming more troubling, we want to continue to be able to bring you all of this content with a degree of regularity. Your contributions will help us support the work here and help support those working to bring it to you.
Simply if in your means I ask that if this site has helped you in your Masonic path that you consider donating what ever you can spare to help us keep the lights on. A $1 dollar donation, a $5 dollar donation, a $10 dollar donation, or more…? What ever you consider the value of the content being. In following the button, I’ve left the amount open for you to give what you can or give what you feel it is worth.
Think of it as an Almoners fund to help support the work we’re doing here, and support us with your clicks to our advertisers.
In the mean time, I hope that we are making a difference in your Masonic Journey by bringing you a ray of Masonic Light.
Travel Light.
